Psychological associations with common colours.

If you think about the colours that are used in specific circumstances you can see how the use of colour can create a mood and feeling. Take for example the old Hammer House of Horror, Dracula films. The starring role of Dracula was commonly portrayed wearing a black cloak with red trim with black hair while the poor unfortunate (female) victim was commonly found in white, probably with blond (yellow) hair.

This gives us a red / black mix for the villain and a yellow / white mix for the victim. I suspect that had Dracula been dressed in an orange / yellow cloak, sporting blond hair the effect portrayed might have a little less convincing.
